What You Should Know:

– WebMD Health Corp., a provider of health information services, announced today the acquisition of certain operating assets from Healthwise, Inc., a company specializing in patient education and engagement solutions.

– Healthwise’s assets, including its extensive library of patient education content, technology platform, and client relationships, will be integrated into WebMD Ignite, WebMD’s healthcare engagement division.

Enhancing Patient Education and Engagement

This strategic acquisition will enable WebMD Ignite to:

Offer a broader range of patient education resources: WebMD Ignite will now serve over 650 healthcare organizations, including over half of US hospitals and 85% of the top 20 healthcare payers, with comprehensive patient education materials.

Become the largest healthcare engagement platform in the US: With this acquisition, WebMD Ignite expands its team to over 500 professionals, solidifying its position as the leading platform for healthcare growth and engagement.

Empower patients to make informed decisions: WebMD’s vision of improving healthcare through patient engagement aligns with Healthwise’s mission of providing clear and accessible health information. This combined offering empowers patients to actively participate in their healthcare journeys.

The Healthwise Board of Directors will remain independent and focus on establishing a new non-profit entity dedicated to empowering individuals to make informed health choices, operating outside the payer and provider space. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

“For nearly 50 years, the Healthwise team has developed the highest quality education content and solutions, created for all people to help them live their healthiest lives, and I could not be prouder of our legacy,” noted Dr. Adam Husney, CEO, Healthwise. “We now have an opportunity to extend our mission through the broader solutions and delivery platforms offered by WebMD Ignite. This transaction will have an even greater impact on health consumers by uniting the potential of two leading organizations in the patient education space.”
