Cerner Acquires Siemens Health IT Business for $1.3B

Baptist Health South Florida has announced it will implement Cerner Millennium and HealtheIntent across all of the system’s hospitals, physician offices and outpatient locations. As part of the implementation, Cerner will enhance the organization’s existing Cerner Soarian Financials revenue cycle management solutions (RCM), providing Baptist Health with an integrated, enterprise-wide HIT system.

“With the responsibility for more than 1 million patient visits each year and nearly 17,000 employees, it is essential that we have industry-leading health IT solutions to manage care,” said Ralph Lawson, executive vice president and chief financial officer, Baptist Health South Florida. “Cerner’s sophisticated integrated experience across the enterprise, from the EHR to financial and population health management solutions will propel Baptist Health toward our goal of improving care coordination and reducing the cost of care.”

Cerner’s interoperability capabilities also enable the system to share health records with outside health organizations regionally and nationally. Cerner will also support Baptist Health’s rapid expansion across its region, including the Caribbean and Latin America. As the largest healthcare organization in South Florida, The not-for-profit, faith-based Baptist Health has approximately 16,000 employees and 2,200 affiliated physicians, and also includes Baptist Health Medical Group, Baptist Outpatient Services and internationally renowned centers of excellence. Baptist Health Foundation, the organization’s fundraising arm, supports services at all hospitals and facilities.
