Infographic illustrates the Affordable Care Act (ACA) impact on the quality of nursing from the consumer’s perspective.
API Healthcare recently commissioned Harris Interactive survey asks U.S. patients and caregivers how they are treated in the hospital – and if they think that will change with the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
The survey polled nearly 2,000 U.S. adults age 30+ and exposed the following consumer perceptions:
*NEWLY INSURED ARE A THREAT: Nearly 70 percent of Americans age 30 or older are worried that there will be an overall decrease in the quality of patient care if millions of newly insured patients enter the healthcare system.
*NURSING CARE IS ERODING: 82 percent of Americans age 30 or older feel that nurses within the health care industry are spread too thin, so patient quality care is decreasing. 40 percent of Americans age 30 or older who have personally been admitted to a hospital, or have had a loved one admitted to a hospital, have seen examples of lack of quality care from nursing staff.
*EMRs ARE NOT TOP PRIORITY: 75 percent of Americans age 30 or older are more concerned with the quality of nursing staff in hospitals than the availability/accessibility of electronic medical records.
