Vascular Imaging Reimagined
Vascular imaging has run into a serious staffing wall. While cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide, getting a reliable vascular ultrasound still depends almost entirely on having a highly trained sonographer in the room.
That bottleneck hits dialysis patients the hardest. Keeping an arteriovenous (AV) fistula or graft open is literally a lifeline for end-stage renal disease, but up to three out of four vascular access points end up failing or getting abandoned. Dialysis clinics rarely have dedicated sonographers on staff, meaning patients have to schedule separate hospital visits just to check blood flow. When those routine checks get delayed, minor narrowing turns into full-blown blockages, leading to emergency revisions and hospital stays that could have been prevented.
To fix that bottleneck, Australian medtech startup Vexev just raised $6M in new funding (bringing their total raised to $19 million) to push their autonomous robotic imaging system, VxWave, through FDA 510(k) clearance and into U.S. clinics.

- Takes the Probe Out of Human Hands: Instead of relying on manual technique, the system uses a robotic arm to control probe movement, pressure, and contact. It automatically turns standard 2D ultrasound signals into full 3D volumetric maps of the vessel.
- Built for Non-Specialists: In clinical trials with U.S. Renal Care, regular clinic staff with no specialized ultrasound background hit a 94% scan completion rate, capturing diagnostic-quality flow data on their own.
- Consistent, Repeatable Data: Because a robot runs the scan, it removes human error and technique drift. Clinics get clear, objective numbers on vessel diameter, flow volume, and narrowing so they can spot a failing access point weeks before it shuts down.

The new capital will go directly toward locking in FDA clearance, scaling up hardware manufacturing, and rolling out commercial pilots across U.S. dialysis and outpatient vascular centers.
