GE HealthCare Expands Breast Imaging Portfolio with Invenia ABUS Prime and StreamVue
Approximately 40% of women in the U.S. and Europe have dense breasts, a physiological factor that increases breast cancer risk four- to six-fold while rendering standard 2D mammography less effective. Because dense fibroglandular tissue and cancerous lesions both appear white on mammograms, mammography alone can miss up to one-third of malignancies in dense-breasted patients. To standardize 3D ultrasound acquisition and streamline multi-site interpretation across healthcare networks, GE HealthCare has launched Invenia™ ABUS Prime alongside ABUS StreamVue™.
GE HealthCare’s latest deployment brings together automated 3D hardware and a flexible, web-based viewer to streamline supplemental breast screening. Built on the Invenia ABUS Prime platform and powered by the cSound™ Imageformer and Verisound™ software, the system relies on automated quality checks and nipple detection to deliver consistent 3D scans across disparate imaging sites. Patient experience and throughput get a boost from a redesigned Reverse Curve™ transducer, tailored compression controls, and a Fast Scan setting that trims acquisition time by up to 40%. For radiologists, embedded QVCAD™ triage assists with reader decision-making—reducing interpretation time by a third while keeping lesion detection sensitivity at 93%.
To handle remote reads, the setup integrates Candelis, Inc.’s FDA-cleared ABUS StreamVue viewer, allowing clinicians to review cases securely in a browser without installing local software. The full architecture is currently operational at BeSound in Los Angeles for outpatient screening, with plans to expand the model into mobile units.
