Amazon One Medical Launches Nationwide GLP-1 Management Program Integrated with Primary Care

What You Should Know

  • The Launch: Amazon One Medical has rolled out a nationwide GLP-1 management program that explicitly integrates obesity treatment with comprehensive primary care.
  • The Clinical Differentiator: Unlike direct-to-consumer “pill mills” that simply dispense weight loss drugs, Amazon is treating obesity as a chronic condition. Because GLP-1s can rapidly alter blood pressure and A1C levels, One Medical clinicians proactively adjust a patient’s existing hypertension or diabetes medications as they lose weight.
  • The Logistics & Pricing: The program is directly integrated with Amazon Pharmacy. With insurance, costs start as low as $25 a month. For cash-pay patients, oral medications (like the Wegovy pill and Foundayo) start at $149 per month, while injectables (like the Zepbound KwikPen) start at $299.
  • The Fulfillment Scale: Amazon Pharmacy is offering Same-Day Delivery for these medications in nearly 3,000 cities today, with plans to expand to 4,500 cities by the end of 2026.

A Primary Care-First Approach to Obesity

Unlike standalone weight-loss services, One Medical integrates GLP-1 management directly into the patient’s broader primary care relationship. This ensures that weight loss is managed in the context of cardiovascular health, metabolic conditions, and overall well-being.

  • Holistic Management: Clinicians proactively adjust medications for comorbidities, such as blood pressure or diabetes, as patients lose weight.
  • Integrated Care Journey: The program includes pre-visit screening, structured consultations, standardized documentation, and evidence-based safety protocols.
  • Team-Based Care: Obesity is treated as a chronic condition requiring continuous medical oversight rather than an episodic intervention.

“Obesity affects more than 40% of U.S. adults, and while advances such as GLP-1-based therapies are helping… without long-term care and clinical guidance, patients can experience negative impacts to their overall health,” noted Dr. Hemalee Patel, Senior Medical Director of Cardiometabolic Health at One Medical.

Seamless Integration with Amazon Pharmacy

The program leverages the infrastructure of Amazon Pharmacy to provide a friction-free experience for patients who choose to use the service:

  • Transparent Pricing: Patients can see upfront medication costs even before booking an appointment.
  • Fast Delivery: Amazon Pharmacy provides prescription delivery to all 50 states, with Same-Day Delivery currently available in nearly 3,000 cities (expanding to 4,500 by the end of 2026).
  • Automatic Savings: Amazon Pharmacy automatically applies manufacturer-sponsored coupons, a program that has saved customers over $200 million to date, with GLP-1s being the largest category of savings.
  • Broad Medication Portfolio: Access includes emerging therapies such as Eli Lilly’s Zepbound (auto-injector, KwikPen, and the new Foundayo pill) and Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy® (pill and injectables).

Tech-Enabled Access and Insurance Streamlining

One Medical has introduced new tools to remove the common administrative barriers associated with weight-loss medications:

  • Electronic Prior Authorization: A new model streamlines the insurance approval process, helping patients begin treatment more quickly.
  • Health AI Assistant: Patients can navigate services and connect with clinicians through Amazon’s Health AI assistant on Amazon.com and the Amazon app.
  • Care Continuity: For those already on GLP-1s who are not yet One Medical members, the platform offers on-demand prescription renewal services to ensure continuity of care.
