AtlantiCare to Deploy Opmed.ai to Fix Surgical Scheduling Across Enterprise

What You Should Know

  • The Deal: AtlantiCare, a major New Jersey integrated delivery network, has selected Opmed.ai to optimize scheduling across 50+ operating rooms and procedural spaces.
  • The Tech: The platform uses AI and network science to scrub the “buffer” out of surgical schedules. It claims to cut case length overestimation by 40% and predict daily schedules with 96% accuracy.
  • The Integration: Opmed.ai will deploy directly on top of AtlantiCare’s Oracle Cerner EHR, functioning as an Oracle Validated Integration to move scheduling from manual spreadsheets to dynamic, predictive decision support.

The “Overestimation” Problem

The core value proposition of Opmed.ai lies in its ability to predict reality better than a human scheduler. Surgeons and schedulers notoriously overestimate case lengths to avoid running late, creating massive gaps of unused time. Opmed.ai’s algorithms analyze historical data to tighten these windows. The platform boasts a 40% reduction in case length overestimation and 96% accuracy in daily schedule predictions.

By tightening the schedule with this level of precision, health systems can fit more cases into the same number of hours without burning out staff—a critical capability as staffing shortages continue to plague the sector.

A “Validated” Oracle Layer

For IT leaders, the significance of this deployment is the integration layer. AtlantiCare operates on the Oracle Cerner EHR. Opmed.ai is not just a bolt-on; it is an Oracle Validated Integration. This allows the AI to ingest real-time data from the EHR and write back recommendations for block releases and case sequencing.

  • Dynamic Block Management: The system offers a 90% success rate in recommending when to release unused surgical blocks, allowing other surgeons to pick up the open time.
  • PACU Optimization: It transforms Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) scheduling from reactive (dealing with bottlenecks as they happen) to proactive (predicting inflow based on surgical finish times).

“As AtlantiCare’s surgical services continue to grow… a strong operational infrastructure is essential,” said Dr. Abraham M. Spence, Chief Medical Officer at AtlantiCare. “Opmed.ai provides added visibility into capacity and flow… reducing delays and improving access.”

Scaling to 2026

The rollout is extensive, covering more than 50 rooms initially, with plans to expand into a new 60-bed inpatient rehabilitation facility opening in late 2026.
