What You Should Know:

– Inova Health, a nonprofit health system, has adopted Signal 1’s AI Management Platform to centralize the oversight, governance, and performance monitoring of its growing portfolio of artificial intelligence tools.

– The move is critical for ensuring that every AI solution deployed is safe, equitable, and compliant with standards like those set by the Joint Commission. The platform will provide essential visibility, automated monitoring, and impact tracking needed to responsibly scale AI from pilot to enterprise-wide application.

From Pilot to Portfolio: Inova Establishes the Blueprint for Enterprise AI Governance

The integration of artificial intelligence into clinical and operational workflows holds immense promise for healthcare. However, that promise is contingent on a single, non-negotiable factor: trust. Inova Health, the leading nonprofit healthcare provider in the greater Washington, D.C. region, is tackling this challenge head-on by selecting Signal 1’s AI Management Platform to centralize the oversight, governance, and performance monitoring for its expanding AI portfolio. This adoption is not an isolated technology investment; it’s the next logical step in Inova’s strategy to become a leader in responsible innovation.

Building Trust by Design

Inova understands that AI tools are dynamic and require continuous management to ensure they are delivering value and not introducing unexpected risks. Its commitment to ethical deployment is already industry-leading:

  • Joint Commission Pioneer: Inova was the first health system in the nation to commit to The Joint Commission’s Responsible Use of Health Data (RUHD) criteria. This voluntary certification provides a framework for hospitals to use and transfer patient data safely for secondary purposes, like algorithm development.
  • Coalition for Health AI (CHAI): Inova is also a member of CHAI, an industry-led coalition committed to developing best practices and frameworks for AI safety, transparency, and security.

“As the use of AI in healthcare grows, Inova’s priority is ensuring every tool we deploy is safe, equitable, secure, and aligned with our mission to deliver world-class care,” said Matt Kull, Chief Information and Digital Strategy Officer at Inova.

A Centralized Operating System for AI

The partnership with Signal 1 directly addresses the operational friction inherent in scaling AI. Historically, every AI deployment has essentially started from scratch, leading to a lack of standardization and scalability. Signal 1’s platform provides the centralized technical capabilities needed to operationalize governance across the entire enterprise.

With this platform, Inova gains a single pane-of-glass for managing its entire AI lifecycle:

  • Total Visibility: A central registry keeps track of all AI tools currently in operation or under evaluation across the health system, eliminating the need for manual tracking.
  • Automated Risk Monitoring: The system provides automated monitoring and reporting with configurable metrics and alerts, ensuring solutions meet safety and compliance requirements. This replaces manual monitoring processes that cannot scale.
  • ROI and Impact Tracking: The platform facilitates crucial outcomes tracking, verifying that solutions are delivering against their intended clinical or operational goals.
  • Generative AI Fine-Tuning: It offers prompt improvement suggestions for Gen AI tools, enabling rapid iteration to meet local clinical needs.

“We’re proud to support Inova’s vision by providing the technology and capabilities to underpin an industry-leading enterprise AI program, with rigorous governance, active oversight and outcomes tracking,” said Tomi Poutanen, Co-Founder and CEO of Signal 1.
