What You Should Know:
– Medbridge, a leader in digital care solutions, has announced the launch of Surgical Pathways, a new offering on its digital musculoskeletal (MSK) and movement-based medicine platform.
– These programs provide hospitals and physical therapy organizations with a complete care journey for patients, from pre-operative preparation to post-operative recovery. The new Pathways cover total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA), which are procedures approximately 1 million patients undergo annually.
Hybrid Approach for Better Outcomes and Lower Costs
The addition of Surgical Pathways is part of Medbridge’s One Care platform and is designed to consolidate fragmented care systems. Compared to digital-only or in-person-only treatment options, patients who have access to hybrid care experience better access to care, more surgical success, and lower overall costs. Each Pathway offers a structured, yet customizable approach that combines clinical best practices, digital engagement, and outcome measurement.
According to Brock Haut, Director of Retail Operations at Beacon Health System, the new Surgical Pathways help clinics free up in-person space for patients who need it most. The programs are also helping to create a “bridge for patients facing insurance restrictions on in-person visits”.
Leveraging AI and Data to Optimize Recovery
Medbridge’s Surgical Pathways programs focus on optimizing recovery across the perioperative journey for high-cost, high-need populations. These digitally-enabled programs improve patient adherence, reduce complications, and enhance surgical outcomes with progressive exercises, multi-faceted education, and patient monitoring. The programs are bolstered by AI-assisted motion capture technology that helps clinicians monitor precise range of motion measurements to track post-surgery progress for TKA and THA.
According to recent Medbridge internal data, the program has demonstrated significant results:
- 70 percent of Pathways patients reduce pain, with an average reduction of 40 percent.
- 69 percent of patients increase function, with an average increase of 56 percent.
By offering structured, evidence-based care plans, Medbridge helps organizations drive performance and deliver the right care at the right time—in person, virtually, or through digital-first engagement.
“Our clinics were so busy that we were struggling to meet high patient demand,” said Brock Haut, Director of Retail Operations at Beacon Health System. “We knew we needed a hybrid care platform that made care more convenient, accessible, and able to fit into our patients’ busy schedules. Medbridge’s Surgical Pathways are helping us free up in-clinic space for the patients who need in-person care the most. Pathways is also helping us create a bridge for patients facing insurance restrictions on in-person visits so we can prolong the duration of their therapy and provide the care they need and deserve.”
