Omada Health Launches "Nutritional Intelligence" with AI Agent OmadaSpark

What You Should Know:

– Omada Health, a virtual between-visit healthcare provider launches Nutritional Intelligence, an enhanced member experience designed to provide evidence-based educational support and help individuals cultivate positive relationships with food.

– Central to this new offering is OmadaSpark, an AI agent trained with robust clinical input that delivers real-time motivational interviewing and nutrition education.

– OmadaSpark aims to assist members in identifying motivational challenges such as emotional eating, improving their food decisions, setting achievable goals, and sustaining lasting behavior changes, regardless of whether they are using GLP-1 medications.

Addressing Modern Dietary Challenges with AI-Powered Support

The launch of Omada’s Nutritional Intelligence comes at a time when research increasingly highlights the dangers of ultraprocessed foods, and the prevalence of chronic cardiometabolic diseases like obesity, diabetes, and hypertension continues to rise in the U.S. Concurrently, the effectiveness of various diets can differ, and maintaining healthy habits long-term, especially with restrictive diets, proves challenging for many. This landscape has also seen an increased demand for GLP-1 medications for weight loss.

“We believe there is a clear market need for real-time educational support backed by behavioral science to improve mindsets and behaviors toward food,” said Wei-Li Shao, President at Omada Health. “To meet the needs of our customers and members, Omada fine tuned its approach to offer AI-powered tools trained with clinical input and expertise to work alongside human care teams in helping members drive improved health and economic outcomes.”

Meet OmadaSpark: An AI Agent for Motivation and Nutrition Education

The Nutritional Intelligence approach helps members identify real-world emotional and practical barriers to healthy eating in an environment where ultra-processed foods are common and many diets fail to deliver lasting results. Key features include:

  • OmadaSpark Motivational Interviewing: For members who identify emotional eating as a barrier, OmadaSpark delivers guided conversations grounded in behavioral science. These interactions help members define their own goals, reinforce autonomy, and find intrinsic motivation to change habits. Integrated with human care teams, OmadaSpark will also provide insights to coaches and specialists about the motivations and barriers reported by members.
  • OmadaSpark Nutrition Education: The AI agent engages members in real-time with personalized nutrition information, aiming to reduce the mental effort of food decisions and encourage the gradual incorporation of healthier alternatives. OmadaSpark is designed with clinical protocols that guide the human care team, offers responses based on key member profiles (e.g., those with certain conditions or taking GLP-1s), and considers allergies, dietary preferences, and age to create tailored responses between coach interactions.

Enhanced Tools for a Healthier Relationship with Food

Beyond direct AI interaction, Omada’s Nutritional Intelligence offers updated food tracking capabilities. These include water tracking, barcode scanning, and photo-recognition technology, providing flexible and non-restrictive support designed to promote a healthy relationship with food and help members unpack complex food beliefs tied to emotional and cultural experiences
