Philips Launches VeriSight Pro 3D Intracardiac Echo Catheter in Europe

What You Should Know:

– Philips announced the introduction of its VeriSight Pro 3D Intracardiac Echocardiography (ICE) catheter in Europe.

– Building on its successful adoption in the United States, VeriSight Pro provides physicians with real-time 3D imaging directly from inside the heart, offering greater clarity during complex procedures and often eliminating the need for general anesthesia.

– The VeriSight Pro is designed for guiding procedures such as transcatheter valve repair and left atrial appendage closure. It offers high-resolution 2D and 3D visualization within the heart chambers, empowering confident clinical decision-making during structural heart and electrophysiology interventions.

Transforming Cardiac Interventions with Real-Time 3D Imaging

The ability to see detailed cardiac anatomy from within the heart in real-time is a significant advancement for interventional cardiology.

“With VeriSight Pro 3D ICE, we now have the ability to see detailed cardiac anatomy from inside the heart in real time,” said Prof. Dr. Jörg Hausleiter of Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich, Germany. “This helps streamline our workflows and makes complex procedures more accessible to patients who may not tolerate more invasive imaging approaches.”

Addressing Structural Heart Disease with Reduced Patient Burden

Structural heart disease represents a growing health challenge across Europe, leading to an increasing volume of transcatheter valve repair and closure procedures. Traditionally, many of these interventions are supported by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), which often necessitates general anesthesia, additional medical staff, and extended procedure room time.

In contrast, 3D ICE imaging with VeriSight Pro provides detailed visualization via a catheter introduced through the femoral vein. This approach can reduce the need for general anesthesia and subsequent recovery time in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), potentially leading to shorter hospital stays and lower overall costs.

VeriSight Pro: Miniaturized Ultrasound Power for Enhanced Precision

The VeriSight Pro is a pioneering innovation, featuring a miniaturized ultrasound probe—approximately 3 millimeters in diameter—embedded at the tip of a thin, steerable catheter. This allows the device to be navigated through the vascular system directly into the heart chambers, delivering high-quality 2D and 3D images in real time.

Imaging the heart from within, with precise control over the scan angle, opens new possibilities for guiding structural heart interventions. Physicians can accurately assess cardiac anatomy, guide the placement of devices, and confirm procedural outcomes, all from a single access point and without relying on more invasive imaging techniques. As the first ICE catheter to miniaturize the same 3D imaging technology used in TEE, VeriSight Pro helps overcome key barriers in delivering efficient and scalable care, from improving patient tolerance to optimizing resource availability in interventional suites. Unique features like xPlane and iRotate technologies allow physicians to visualize two imaging planes simultaneously and digitally adjust views without physically repositioning the catheter tip, enabling precise assessment with fewer imaging steps.
