What You Should Know:

– Intermountain Health today announced two key leadership appointments within its Digital Technology Services (DTS) team. Tamara Moores Todd, MD, has been named chief health informatics officer (CHIO) for the system, and Jason McClellan will serve as chief clinical informatics officer (CCIO).

– These roles are pivotal as Intermountain continues to advance its digital and technological capabilities to enhance patient care and caregiver experiences.

– Both Dr. Moores Todd and McClellan will continue to serve on the DTS Executive Leadership Team and will report directly to Ryan Smith, Intermountain’s chief digital and information officer.

Dr. Tamara Moores Todd to Helm Health Informatics Strategy as CHIO

Dr. Tamara Moores Todd will draw upon more than a decade of progressive clinical and administrative experience in her new role as CHIO. She previously served as Intermountain’s interim chief health informatics officer and associate chief health informatics officer, where she led significant initiatives including the deployment of advanced decision support systems and the creation of unified clinical communication ecosystems. Her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic also resulted in pioneering technical workflows and substantial operational cost savings.

In her new capacity, Dr. Moores Todd will spearhead the strategic vision and development of health informatics initiatives across Intermountain. She will collaborate closely with clinical leaders to optimize the use of electronic health records (EHR) and other clinical systems, while also driving innovation and continuous improvement efforts throughout the health system.

Dr. Moores Todd holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from Loma Linda University and is board certified in emergency medicine and clinical informatics.

“I’m honored to be named in this role and excited to unite our Intermountain teams to care for each patient as if they were family,” said Dr. Moores Todd. “Leading our Informatics Teams brings me unabating joy — working with wildly talented, mission-driven people to create reliable systems that enhance both caregiver and patient experiences. In this next chapter, I seek to shape our systems to work better for us, helping clinicians reclaim time, reduce friction, and support care with data and technology. Informatics serves as a bridge, and I’m humbled to be part of the team building that bridge better together.”

Jason McClellan Appointed CCIO to Foster Data-Driven Decision-Making

As Intermountain’s new chief clinical informatics officer, Jason McClellan will partner with clinical, operational, and technology leaders to cultivate data-driven decision-making across the enterprise. McClellan has a rich history with Intermountain Health, serving in several roles for nearly a decade, including associate chief clinical informatics officer, informatics director of learning and communication, and nurse clinical informatics analyst.

His career highlights include playing a pivotal role in the system’s EHR implementation, significantly improving the caregiver EHR experience, and championing innovative documentation strategies that have saved nursing caregivers thousands of hours. McClellan’s background also includes service in the U.S. Army, specializing in finance, accounting, and information systems security. He holds an MBA and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Western Governors University.
