What You Should Know:

– Carta Healthcare, a leading provider of AI-powered clinical data abstraction, today announced it has secured $18.25 million in Series B1 financing.

–  This investment will accelerate the company’s growth as demand surges among health systems and life sciences organizations for AI-driven innovation that transforms clinical data into valuable insights.

Carta Healthcare Secures Strategic Investment to Expand AI-Powered Clinical Data Solutions

Carta Healthcare, a leading provider of clinical data management solutions, has announced a new round of strategic funding led by UPMC Enterprises. Additional participants include MemorialCare Innovation Fund, Rex Health Ventures (UNC Health), Tampa General Hospital Ventures, and returning investors such as Memorial Hermann Health System, Frist Cressey Ventures, Storm Ventures, Paramark Ventures, CU Healthcare Innovation Fund, and Mass General Brigham Ventures.

This investment supports Carta Healthcare’s continued growth across hospital systems and the life sciences sector, following its late 2024 acquisition of Realyze Intelligence from UPMC Enterprises. Realyze Intelligence brings advanced AI capabilities that identify patients eligible for clinical trials and research by rapidly analyzing both structured and unstructured data.

Founded in 2017, Carta Healthcare has redefined clinical data abstraction through:

  • AI and machine learning technologies
  • Deep clinical domain expertise
  • Automation of data collection and analysis
  • Actionable insights for quality improvement and research

The company’s platform streamlines labor-intensive abstraction processes, reducing operational costs and enabling hospitals and health systems to operate more efficiently. Its solutions improve the speed and accuracy of clinical data extraction—long a pain point for health institutions seeking to leverage electronic health records for better care delivery.

Brent Burns, Executive Vice President at UPMC Enterprises, commented, “UPMC Enterprises invests in companies addressing core challenges in healthcare delivery. Carta Healthcare’s AI-driven platform directly tackles the inefficiencies of clinical data abstraction, equipping health systems with scalable analytics tools that allow them to prioritize exceptional patient care. We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Carta to further integrate their solutions across our network.”

Recognized for its innovation with accolades such as the Merit Award, Pinnacle Award, and BIG Innovation Awards, Carta Healthcare continues to drive transformation in healthcare data management by delivering accurate, high-quality, and actionable clinical data that enables improved healthcare outcomes.
