What You Should Know:
– ŌURA, the creator of the leading smart ring, today announced a significant expansion of its health tracking capabilities with the introduction of two new AI-driven metabolic health features: Meals and Glucose.
– These additions, which integrate meal insights with continuous glucose data from Stelo by Dexcom, aim to provide users with personalized, actionable guidance, marking a major step in ŌURA’s evolution towards a comprehensive health solution.
Addressing a Critical Need for Personalized Metabolic Health
Metabolic health is fundamental to overall vitality, influencing energy levels, mood, and long-term disease risk. With conditions like Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and obesity on the rise globally—affecting hundreds of millions—the importance of metabolic well-being cannot be overstated. Poor metabolic health is linked to increased risks of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and kidney disease, and can manifest in daily symptoms such as fatigue and brain fog. Proactive lifestyle changes can mitigate these risks, but the complexity of metabolic processes often makes it difficult for individuals to identify the most effective personal strategies.
“Our product roadmap for this year is built on a robust investment in AI-forward offerings that enable a deeper understanding of the dynamic interplay of key health factors,” said Holly Shelton, Chief Product Officer at ŌURA. “Our bodies all process food in different ways, which is why we’re leveraging a unique combination of ŌURA’s extensive biometric tracking, generative AI, and Stelo glucose data to address a critical need for more individualized and accessible metabolic health solutions.”
“Meals”: Understanding Dietary Impact Beyond Calories
After successful testing in Oura Labs, the “Meals” feature is now a permanent addition to the Oura App. Users can simply take a picture of their food, and the AI-powered system provides food recognition and comprehensive nutrition analysis, focusing on how meals fuel the body. Unlike traditional calorie-counting apps, Meals emphasizes macronutrients to help members understand the connection between their dietary choices and overall health.
Once a meal photo is analyzed, Oura Advisor offers guidance on nutritional choices, helping members build nutrient-dense meals to avoid energy slumps. A “Nutrition Breakdown” component provides an at-a-glance summary of key elements like protein, fiber, processing level, added sugars, total fats, and total carbs. This approach delivers non-judgmental insights, empowering users to make informed choices aligned with their health goals.
“Glucose”: Integrating Continuous Monitoring with Stelo by Dexcom
Through a strategic partnership with Dexcom, Oura members can now purchase a Stelo glucose biosensor directly from ouraring.com. Stelo, the first FDA-cleared glucose biosensor available without a prescription in the U.S., is a small device worn on the back of the upper arm that reveals how lifestyle factors affect glucose levels. Previously, such biosensors were prescription-only.
By integrating Stelo with ŌURA, members will see their daily glucose readings alongside their meal, sleep, stress, and activity data within the new “Glucose” feature in the Oura App. “By integrating with ÕURA, we’re bringing the first glucose biosensor and smart ring integration to the market, providing a one-of-a-kind and personalized metabolic health experience,” said Jake Leach, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Dexcom.
The Glucose feature will include contextual graphs and insights from Oura Advisor to help users understand the interplay of various factors on their glucose levels. A new key metric, “Time Above Range,” will track how long glucose stays above the target, providing an AI-powered analysis of daily glucose trends.
AI-Powered Health Insights with Oura Advisor
Both new features are supported by Oura Advisor, ŌURA’s AI-powered health coach. This holistic LLM (Large Language Model) offers personalized, contextual, and empathetic guidance, integrating with various app features and answering general health questions.
Pricing and Availability
Meals and Glucose will be available at launch on iOS and Android for Oura members in the United States. Meals is planned for an international launch later this year. Oura Advisor intelligence will be progressively released across additional features in the coming months.
New and existing Oura members can purchase Stelo directly from ouraring.com for $99. Each order includes two sensors, each with a wear-time of up to 15 days. Stelo is available bundled with or without a ring, for U.S. customers only. It is FDA-cleared for adults 18 or older not on insulin who are interested in tracking their glucose, including those with Type 2 diabetes not using insulin or those with prediabetes. Both Oura Ring and Stelo are eligible for purchase with FSA/HSA funds.
