What You Should Know:

– Kandu Health, Inc. and Neurolutions, Inc. today announced their merger, forming Kandu, Inc. The newly established company aims to redefine the landscape of stroke recovery by offering an unprecedented, at-home, end-to-end solution for stroke survivors and their caregivers.

– Kandu plans to develop a first-in-kind end-to-end solution for stroke survivors, combining brain computer interface (BCI) technology with personalized telehealth services.

$30M Funding to Fuel Commercialization Efforts

In conjunction with the merger, Kandu Inc. successfully completed the initial closing of a $30M financing round co-led by prominent healthcare investors Ally Bridge Group and AMED Ventures, with continued support from existing investors. Kandu, Inc. will strategically deploy these funds to fuel ongoing commercialization efforts and further its core mission of making comprehensive stroke recovery accessible within the comfort of patients’ homes.

Post-Acute Stroke Care Fragmentation

Historically, the landscape of post-acute stroke care has been characterized by fragmentation and a short-term focus. Stroke survivors and their caregivers often face significant challenges in navigating a disjointed healthcare system, leading to concerningly high hospital readmission rates and persistent health issues. Under current models, a staggering 28% of stroke survivors report their quality of life as “poor or worse than death” a full year after their stroke. Through this strategic merger, Kandu, Inc. is determined to bridge this critical gap by providing stroke survivors with continuous and evolving support throughout their entire recovery process.

Changing the Trajectory of Stroke Care

Kandu Health, established in 2022, has rapidly emerged as a tech-enabled healthcare services innovator dedicated to transforming the trajectory of stroke recovery. Neurolutions, founded in 2007, has positioned itself as a leader in the application of non-invasive BCI technology for post-stroke rehabilitation. Kandu Health has been providing crucial remote, multidisciplinary support to stroke survivors and their care partners in outpatient settings.

This support is delivered through a dedicated team of licensed clinicians and a user-friendly mobile application. Complementing this, Neurolutions’ groundbreaking IpsiHand® System stands as the only non-invasive FDA-cleared device proven to accelerate motor recovery in the affected upper limb following chronic stroke.

“We are excited to bring together Neurolutions’ medical device expertise with the AI-supported digital health solutions of Kandu Health,” said Leo Petrossian, CEO of Neurolutions, who will lead the newly formed Kandu, Inc. as its CEO. “This merger positions Kandu, Inc. as a leader in the stroke recovery space and allows us to offer a seamless continuum of care, from the immediate post-acute phase through chronic rehabilitation and recovery. Kandu, Inc. is now able to offer a truly integrated care experience that aligns with the needs of stroke survivors, healthcare providers, and caregivers.”
