What You Should Know:

– DHL Group has announced a significant investment of $2.2B (€2B) by 2030 to strengthen its logistics capabilities in the life sciences and healthcare sector.

– The strategic investment aims to support the company’s “Strategy 2030” and enhance its ability to assist healthcare customers in expanding their operations, fostering innovation, and improving patient care on a global scale.

DHL Health Logistics Investment Focus

A substantial portion of this investment, $876M (€800M), will be allocated to North America. The remaining investment is divided geographically, with 10% going to Latin America, 25% to the Asia Pacific region, and 25% to the EMEA region. This global expansion will enable DHL to provide integrated, faster, more reliable, and patient-centric logistics solutions to healthcare companies worldwide.

Key areas of focus for the investment include:

  • Establishing new cross-divisional GPD-certified Pharma Hubs for multi-temperature shipment lanes.
  • Expanding cold chain capacity in existing facilities.
  • Commissioning new temperature-controlled vehicles.
  • Enhancing both passive and active packaging solutions for sustainable delivery.
  • Investing in specialized cooling infrastructure to accommodate low and ultra-low temperature ranges for clinical trials, biopharma, and cell and gene therapies.
  • Implementing IT systems to provide end-to-end visibility, ensuring product integrity, regulatory compliance, and confidence for healthcare providers and patients.

These enhancements are designed to create more resilient, scalable, and responsive supply chains for customers.

DHL Health Logistics Sector Brand

To further solidify its expertise in the sector, DHL Group is consolidating its life sciences and healthcare services under the unified sector brand DHL Health Logistics. This move is intended to simplify the management of complex, cross-border supply chains for customers in the pharmaceutical, biopharma, and medical industries.

DHL Group has been a significant player in the life sciences and healthcare logistics sector, generating over €5 billion in revenue in 2024. With this new investment, the company projects an additional €5 billion in incremental revenue by 2030, demonstrating its commitment to scaling operations in response to the industry’s evolving needs.

“Similar to DHL Group’s purpose of “Connecting people, improving lives”, our strategic investment in life sciences and healthcare is driven by our customers’ mission: delivering essential, often life-saving products to people in need,” said Oscar de Bok, CEO of DHL Supply Chain. “We’re building high-quality, integrated logistics solutions that are as innovative and reliable as the products our customers create – ensuring that patients everywhere receive the right treatment, at the right time, with complete confidence.”
