What You Should Know:

– Cylinder, a virtual digestive health provider announced its acquisition of Dieta Health, creator of the first clinically validated AI-powered stool imaging app. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

– This acquisition will drive Cylinder towards its goal of delivering more personalized digestive care and improving clinical outcomes. Dieta Health developed the world’s first mobile app with clinically-validated AI stool image classification.

Cylinder Expands AI-Driven Digestive Health Solutions with Acquisition of Dieta Health

Cylinder, a virtual digestive health platform, delivers personalized, clinician-backed care. Offering dynamically updated content and individualized care plans, the platform enhances patient engagement and outcomes. Members gain nationwide access to a multidisciplinary care team, including health coaches, registered dietitians, and gastroenterologists. Committed to innovation, Cylinder aims to provide accessible, personalized, and affordable digestive healthcare to improve overall well-being.

The acquisition of Dieta Health strengthens Cylinder’s capabilities by integrating advanced AI technology for digestive health monitoring. Traditionally, patients with gastrointestinal (GI) conditions rely on subjective self-reporting tools such as the Bristol Stool Scale, which influence diagnosis and treatment decisions. Dieta’s AI-driven application enables patients to capture stool images via smartphone, analyzing them with five clinically validated data points. This technology has demonstrated superior accuracy over conventional patient-reported outcomes and has been validated through peer-reviewed studies from Cedars-Sinai and Mayo Clinic.

With a database of hundreds of thousands of stool images linked to various diagnoses and clinical contexts, Dieta has already contributed to advancements in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) treatment, ulcerative colitis monitoring, and cirrhosis management. Its integration into Cylinder’s platform will facilitate faster, more precise insights into GI conditions, enabling earlier diagnoses and more tailored treatment strategies.

The acquisition also reinforces Cylinder’s clinical partnerships and cost-reduction initiatives. By detecting critical shifts in bowel patterns—such as the presence of blood—the system enables proactive interventions, preventing complications that could lead to costly hospitalizations. GI conditions affect 40% of the population daily, contributing to significant healthcare expenditures and diminished quality of life. With GI-related issues accounting for 8.3 million emergency room visits annually and costing the U.S. healthcare system $136 billion—exceeding expenditures for heart disease or mental health—more effective, technology-driven solutions are essential.

Beyond patient care, Cylinder’s digital health platform offers benefits for employers by reducing absenteeism and healthcare costs. Its comprehensive, expert-backed approach supports a full spectrum of gastrointestinal concerns, focusing on long-term health improvements rather than short-term symptom management.

Post Acqusition Plans

As part of the acquisition, Dieta Health’s founder and CEO, Asaf Kraus, along with three key team members, will join Cylinder to continue driving clinical research and integrating AI technology into the platform. This strategic expansion aligns with Cylinder’s 2025 growth objectives, delivering immediate clinical advantages while fostering long-term innovation in digestive health.
