What You Should Know:

– Tanner Health, a healthcare provider in west Georgia and east Alabama, is expanding its implementation of Abridge’s AI-powered clinical documentation platform across its entire health system.

– The enterpise deployment follows a successful pilot program within Tanner’s behavioral health department, where clinicians praised Abridge’s ability to streamline documentation and enhance patient engagement.

Abridge’s AI Platform for Enhanced Clinical Documentation

Abridge’s ambient AI technology automatically captures and transcribes clinical conversations, generating comprehensive and accurate medical notes. This reduces administrative burden on clinicians, allowing them to focus more on patient care.

Tanner initially conducted a head-to-head comparison of Abridge with another documentation tool, with clinicians providing feedback on both solutions. Abridge emerged as the preferred choice due to its superior note quality, seamless integration with existing workflows, and ability to accurately capture conversations in complex clinical environments.

Positive Impact on Behavioral Health

Tanner’s pilot program revealed that Abridge was particularly beneficial for behavioral health clinicians. The platform’s ability to automate documentation allowed clinicians to:

  • Spend more time connecting with patients: By reducing time spent on note-taking, clinicians could dedicate more attention to building rapport and engaging in meaningful conversations with patients.
  • Improve the quality of care: More comprehensive and accurate documentation led to better informed treatment decisions and improved patient outcomes.
  • Reduce burnout: By alleviating administrative burden, Abridge helped to reduce clinician burnout and improve job satisfaction.

Enterprise-Wide Deployment

Based on the success of the pilot program, Tanner Health is now deploying Abridge across all enterprise care settings, specialties, and languages. The platform’s ability to automatically detect the care setting and generate appropriate documentation makes it a versatile solution for Tanner’s diverse healthcare environment.

“The impact of Abridge on clinicians has been even better than I expected,” said Bonnie Boles, MD, MBA, FCCP, Tanner’s Chief Medical Information Officer. “A busy primary care doctor reported that this is the first time in 30 years she is finishing her notes by the end of clinic. A surgeon told me that he used to spend 4-5 hours at the end of every day to finish documentation—now he’s done in an hour.”
