–  During a 90-day pilot, Corewell Health’s enterprise team partnered with Abridge’s customer teams to implement the technology and saw a significant impact. The technology will be available to 4,000 employed Corewell Health physicians and advanced practice providers across 21 hospitals and 300+ outpatient and post-acute locations.

Corewell Health and Abridge AI Collaboration: Transforming Patient Care and Clinician Efficiency

Corewell Health, a leading not-for-profit health system, is committed to reimagining health and wellness through innovation, collaboration, and equity. With a team of over 65,000 dedicated individuals, including 12,000+ physicians and advanced practice providers, and 15,500 nurses, Corewell Health operates:

  • 21 hospitals and 300+ outpatient facilities.
  • Priority Health, a provider-sponsored health plan serving 1.3 million members.

In partnership with Abridge, Corewell Health has implemented generative AI technology to enhance patient-clinician interactions. Abridge automates the creation of structured clinical notes in real-time and generates a Patient Visit Summary, designed at an eighth-grade reading level, to ensure patient comprehension and engagement. By reducing administrative workload, this technology allows clinicians to focus more on patient care, leading to improved satisfaction and better outcomes.

Key Outcomes from Corewell Health’s 90-Day Pilot with Abridge

  • Increased Patient Focus:
90% of clinicians reported being able to provide more undivided attention to patients, with a 61% reduction in cognitive load.
  • Time Savings:
Clinicians spent 48% less time on after-hours documentation, reducing weekly time from 4.3 hours to 2.2 hours.
  • Improved Clinician Satisfaction:
85% of clinicians reported greater workplace satisfaction, and over half noted a decrease in burnout caused by administrative demands.

Jason Joseph, Chief Digital and Information Officer at Corewell Health, highlighted the transformative potential of this technology: “By investing in innovative AI solutions, we are significantly improving workflows and clinician efficiency while enhancing the quality of patient care and the clinician experience.”

Through this collaboration, Corewell Health continues to lead the way in integrating advanced AI solutions to support both patient care and clinician well-being, reaffirming its commitment to excellence and innovation in healthcare.
