What You Should Know:

– AliveCor, the global leader in AI-powered cardiology, today announced that the American Medical Association (AMA) has granted new Category III Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes that are applicable to the company’s Kardia™ 12L ECG System, which received FDA clearance in June 2024.

– In accordance with the AMA semi-annual early release schedule, the new codes will be effective January 1st, 2025 and published in the 2025 CPT Code book.

Kardia 12L ECG System: Advanced, Portable Cardiac Detection

The Kardia 12L ECG System, incorporating KAI 12L’s AI technology, revolutionizes cardiac care by enabling the fast and easy detection of life-threatening conditions. As the world’s first AI capable of detecting 35 cardiac conditions, including heart attacks, using a reduced leadset, KAI 12L sets a new standard in cardiac diagnostics.

Key Features:

– Portability and Convenience: Weighing only 0.3 pounds and battery-operated, the Kardia 12L ECG System is significantly smaller and more portable than conventional 12-lead ECGs.

– Ease of Use: With minimal self-guided training required, the device is simpler and faster to use than standard ECG machines, making it accessible to a wider range of healthcare providers.

– Patient Comfort: Its streamlined leadset reduces the invasiveness of the procedure, allowing patients to remain partially clothed during readings.

– Accessibility: The compact design and user-friendly interface make it suitable for various healthcare settings, including primary and urgent care offices, employer clinics, and under-resourced or rural venues.

 CPT Codes:

CPT codes are essential for healthcare reimbursement, used by government payers such as Medicare and Medicaid, as well as commercial insurance companies. Category III CPT codes, in particular, support data collection for emerging healthcare approaches and establish reimbursement pathways for providers. The following Category III codes for the Kardia 12L have been accepted by the CPT Editorial Panel for the 2025 production cycle:

– 0903T: Electrocardiogram, Algorithmically generated 12-lead ECG from a reduced-lead ECG; with interpretation and report.

– 0904T: Electrocardiogram, Algorithmically generated 12-lead ECG from a reduced-lead ECG; tracing only.

– 0905T: Electrocardiogram, Algorithmically generated 12-lead ECG from a reduced-lead ECG; interpretation and report only.

By integrating advanced AI technology with a compact, user-friendly design, the Kardia 12L ECG System significantly enhances the accessibility and efficiency of cardiac diagnostics.
