What You Should Know:

– CRISP Shared Services (CSS), a leading non-profit focused on public health data exchange technology, has been selected as an Implementation Center awardee under the newly launched $255M National Implementation Center Program.

– The program, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) through the Public Health Infrastructure Grant (PHIG), positions CSS as a key player in modernizing data exchange and integrating health data into the public health system. This initiative aims to enable faster and more efficient public health responses.

CSS Selected for Proven Track Record

The PHIG National Partners, a consortium of public health organizations, selected CSS as one of three implementation centers based on their history of success. CSS boasts a strong track record, having implemented data modernization initiatives and deployed health infrastructure solutions across over a dozen US jurisdictions. Their expertise includes extensive interoperability innovation in both the public and private sectors.

Supporting the CDC’s Data Modernization Vision

The PHIG program complements the CDC’s multi-year, multi-billion-dollar Data Modernization Initiative. This broader initiative aims to modernize data infrastructure across federal and state public health agencies. The PHIG program provides an additional five-year investment by the CDC to support public health infrastructure needs and provide direct funding for National Partners and Implementation Centers. This funding will ultimately support over 100 health departments across the country.

Enabling Successful Data Exchange

As an Implementation Center, CSS will play a crucial role in ensuring health departments adopt and utilize key data exchange technologies. These technologies include the Trusted Exchange Framework and Common Agreement (TEFCA) and electronic case reporting systems. They will provide end-to-end technical support for health departments as they implement modern health information technology standards, leading to high-quality data exchange for public health purposes.

Strong Partnerships for Enhanced Support

To achieve its goals, CSS has partnered with leading industry specialists for the duration of the program. These partners include:

  • Innsena: A health technology consultancy dedicated to improving public health infrastructure and outcomes for underserved communities.
  • Zane Networks: An award-winning provider of healthcare transformation services.
  • Burton Policy Consulting: An organization providing health policy services and strategic advising to public and private sectors.

“The disparity across health departments and healthcare organizations continues to compound barriers to accessing the data needed to improve key health priorities,” said Craig Behm, president and chief executive officer of CSS. “We believe everyone deserves an infrastructure that can unify the healthcare ecosystem to better serve patients.”
