What You Should Know:

– Evidation, a company dedicated to improving health measurement in daily life, today announced the launch of MigraineSmart – a program on their app designed to empower migraine sufferers with self-tracking tools and research opportunities.

– Migraine is a chronic and debilitating condition impacting over 40 million Americans, with women disproportionately affected. These migraines significantly impact quality of life, affecting physical and mental health, work productivity, and relationships. While numerous treatment options exist, many sufferers lack adequate treatment.

MigraineSmart: A Personalized Approach to Migraine Management

MigraineSmart is a new health engagement program offered within the Evidation app. This program leverages various data sources to provide users with a more comprehensive understanding and management approach to their migraines. Here’s what MigraineSmart offers:

  • Personalized Insights: Users will receive weekly insights and monthly reports that combine symptom logs with wearable data. This allows users to identify potential triggers and patterns associated with their migraines.
  • Rewarding Engagement: The program incentivizes participation through a points system redeemable for cash or charitable donations. Points are awarded for logging symptoms and engaging with educational content and data insights.
  • Contributing to Research: MigraineSmart offers optional participation in research opportunities. With user consent, researchers can access anonymized data to gain a deeper understanding of the real-world experience of migraine sufferers.

Early Program Results Show Promise

A pilot program involving 3492 participants yielded encouraging results:

  • Medication Usage: Nearly half (43%) of participants reported using prescription medication, with triptans being the most common medication class.
  • Activity Levels: Migraine days were associated with a significant decrease in steps taken (average 50% less).
  • Improved Doctor Communication: Over half of participants planned to share their MigraineSmart reports with healthcare providers.

Evidation: A Leader in Patient-Centered Health Data

Since 2018, Evidation has conducted longitudinal studies on the impact of migraines on daily life. A recent survey by Evidation revealed that 41% of migraine sufferers did not seek medical attention in the past year, and younger individuals (18-44) were less likely to use prescription medications despite potentially experiencing a greater disease burden.

“The lived experience of migraine sufferers is often under-represented in clinical data,” said Abigail Levine, PhD, Senior Director of Product Strategy at Evidation. “MigraineSmart addresses this gap by generating high-resolution, research-grade data that provides actionable insights for patients and valuable information for researchers.”

Availability and Privacy

MigraineSmart enrollment opens on July 1st, 2024, through the Evidation app available on Google Play and the Apple App Store. Participation is voluntary, and Evidation prioritizes user privacy with strict consent protocols.

By empowering users with self-tracking tools and facilitating research participation, MigraineSmart offers a promising approach to migraine management and improved understanding of this widespread condition.
