What You Should Know:

–              The Ollie Hinkle Heart Foundation (OHHF), a leading non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with childhood-onset heart conditions and their families, today announced a national partnership with LunaJoy Health, a women’s mental health company supporting clinical operations and patient risk identification.

–              This collaboration aims to address the growing need for specialized trauma-informed mental health support for families across the nation, with about 40,000 babies born each year suffering from heart defects.

Expanding Mental Health Support for Families Affected by Heart Conditions

The Ollie Hinkle Heart Foundation (OHHF), dedicated to aiding families of children with lifelong heart conditions, has partnered with LunaJoy Health to enhance access to personalized mental health care. This collaboration aims to ensure families receive timely and effective consultative services, education, and crisis resources. By combining their expertise, the two organizations will focus on making mental health resources more accessible, providing specialized trauma-informed care, and raising awareness through community outreach and education.

The partnership’s three key areas of support are enhanced accessibility, specialized trauma-informed care programs, and community outreach and education. Enhanced accessibility will ensure that mental health resources are available to families whenever and wherever needed. Specialized programs will leverage LunaJoy Health’s technology and OHHF’s extensive experience supporting 1,700 families annually affected by congenital heart disease (CHD), offering services like mental health screenings, individualized therapy sessions, and wellness checks. Community outreach efforts will include educational campaigns, peer-to-peer support groups, and localized events to reduce stigma and promote open conversations about mental health within the family dynamic.

This initiative addresses the increasing need for comprehensive mental health support due to the prevalence of childhood-onset heart conditions, which expose affected families to significant physical and emotional challenges. Frequent hospital visits, invasive procedures, and serious illnesses result in higher rates of anxiety, depression, PTSD, and ADHD among these families. Utilizing LunaJoy Health’s technology, the partnership aims to mitigate risks and gather vital data for informed treatment plans, with LunaCare serving as the foundational infrastructure for OHHF’s mental health program. OHHF continues its mission to support families through love, barrier-free access, and community-building, providing essential resources and advocacy for those navigating pediatric heart disease.

“Parents of children with congenital heart defects are going through an emotionally destabilizing time. Many struggle with feelings of fear, guilt, and overwhelming stress, and the agony of knowing these conditions may be permanent and lifelong,” said Jenn Hinkle, co-founder. “Our providers are specially trained to offer trauma-informed care, helping these families navigate their emotional journeys with specialized support. LunaJoy allows us to increase capacity and speed up time-to-treatment, and we recognize that technology is a critical part of managing the evolving state of a family’s mental health.”
