What You Should Know:

  • Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) and DUOS, a technology-enabled service provider announces a new collaborative program to enhance the healthcare experience and improve health outcomes for Louisiana veteran members with chronic conditions.
  • The initiative links veterans with chronic conditions to DUOS, where they undergo an assessment of health needs and goals. Based on this assessment, participants are paired with benefits and resources accessible through their Medicare Advantage plan and/or veterans’ benefits. Running from March to year-end, the program is open to Louisiana veterans with Humana Medicare Advantage plans and chronic conditions.

Empowering Veterans’ Health: Humana and USAA’s Collaborative Commitment

Currently, Humana oversees health benefits for nearly 6 million active-duty military personnel and retirees across the nation. These individuals may face distinct physical and mental health hurdles, and Humana is dedicated to ensuring they receive tailored and thorough assistance. Emily McGrath, Director of Health Equity Strategy at Humana, leading this endeavor, emphasizes the importance of collaborative efforts across various teams to support veterans effectively.

Ahead of the program’s launch, Humana’s partner, USAA, provided training to DUOS personal assistants to ensure a deep understanding of military and veteran culture. Mary Forey, AVP of Product Management at USAA, highlights the collaboration between USAA and Humana as a testament to their ongoing commitment to integrating different aspects of care and support to positively impact veterans’ lives. The DUOS partnership exemplifies Humana’s enduring dedication to enhancing the health and well-being of veteran communities through collaborative endeavors.

“When healthcare professionals and systems are responsive to their patients’ cultural backgrounds – which includes veteran status – patients are more likely to receive appropriate care, show up to appointments, follow through with treatment plans, and be more transparent in disclosing their health- related needs,” said Stephanie Muckey, a Marine Corps spouse, caregiver, and leader of Humana’s Veteran Health Equity & Social Impact strategy.”
