What You Should Know:

–  A new report by GoodTime sheds light on how the industry is leveraging technology to combat this critical challenge. The U.S. healthcare system faces a looming workforce shortage, with a projected deficit of nearly 200,000 nurses by 2031.

– The 2024 GoodTime Hiring report offers a valuable glimpse into the current state of healthcare hiring. As the industry grapples with workforce shortages, AI and automation are emerging as lifelines, allowing healthcare providers to streamline their processes and focus on attracting and retaining top talent.

The Urgency for Innovation

GoodTime’s 2024 Hiring Insights Report: Healthcare Edition surveyed 105 talent acquisition (TA) leaders across the healthcare sector. The findings paint a stark picture:

  • 100% of healthcare TA teams now use some form of automation or AI in their hiring process. This highlights the urgent need for innovative solutions to address the labor crunch.
  • Hiring struggles are real. Healthcare organizations only achieved 45.6% of their hiring goals in 2023.
  • Top challenges include sourcing qualified candidates, maintaining work-life balance for staff, and adapting to remote/hybrid work models.

The report also reveals a surprising statistic: 50% of healthcare organizations went through layoffs in 2023. This further underscores the pressure on healthcare providers to find new and efficient ways to attract and retain talent.

However, there’s a silver lining. Healthcare TA leaders are actively embracing technology as a solution:

  • AI is powering improvements in application and resume screening, as well as interview preparation. This frees up valuable time for human recruiters to focus on building relationships with top candidates.
  • A focus on candidate experience is taking center stage. This includes streamlining interview scheduling and creating a positive and efficient hiring process.
  • Standardization is becoming a priority. Consistent hiring processes ensure fairness and efficiency for both candidates and organizations.

Looking ahead, 97% of healthcare TA leaders plan to invest in more hiring technology in 2024. This trend signifies a clear shift towards embracing AI and automation as essential tools for navigating the ongoing healthcare labor shortage.
