What You Should Know:

  • Since 2018, we have been working with employer and payer partners to put Health Payment Accounts (HPAs) into the hands of Americans to help them more equitably access and afford healthcare.
  • With Paytient available to nearly 1M members today, we wanted to better understand how the Paytient HPA changes behavior and attitudes toward the employers who sponsor it as an employee benefit.

Transforming Employee Well-being and Workplace Dynamics with Positive Impact and Financial Support

In January 2024, we conducted the 2024 HPA Employee Experience Survey, gathering insights from over 3,300 users who received the Paytient Health Payment Account (HPA) as an employee benefit. The survey explored care-seeking patterns, overall well-being, the perceived value of employer-sponsored health benefits, and perspectives on workplace loyalty.

The results, with 95% confidence, indicate that employees utilizing Paytient’s HPA report enhanced health, increased job satisfaction, and improved retention.

Respondents shared the impact of their HPA:

1. 92% expressed higher satisfaction with health benefits.

2. 66% noted improved health for themselves and their families.

3. 64% were more likely to stay in their current job.

4. 54% would have skipped some or all care without the HPA.

5. Over 20% felt their employer genuinely cared about them.

Despite employer-sponsored health insurance, many Americans struggle to afford care. The study suggests that this challenge persists even among those benefit-eligible. The HPA provides ready-to-spend funds for immediate care payment, offering flexibility in repayment options and contributing to better health. Compatible with any health plan, the HPA serves as a bridge to improved health, allowing members to repay balances conveniently. Its accessibility, absence of credit checks, and equitable financing distinguish it from alternatives with high interest rates.

For employers prioritizing workforce attraction and retention, the HPA is a potent tool, evident in overwhelmingly positive employee feedback. Survey responses highlighted its impact on well-being, financial support, employer care, convenience, and gratitude.

Approximately 40% of respondents acknowledged the positive impact on well-being, while 30% appreciated the financial support. Around 20% emphasized feeling cared for by their employers, and 15% valued the convenience of HPA payments. An additional 10% expressed gratitude for the Paytient card as a valuable benefit. This study underscores the challenge of paying for unplanned healthcare and demonstrates that HPAs provide appreciated financial support, fostering stronger employer-employee relationships in the face of rising healthcare costs.
