New COVID-19 Tracker Predicts Future Hot Spots Over Next 7-10 Days

What You Should Know:

– Cotiviti unveiled its COVID-19 Outbreak Tracker to map future infection “hot spots” that may emerge over the next seven to ten days across the U.S.

– The COVID-19 Outbreak Tracker identifies potentially hidden outbreak areas by analyzing COVID screening trends across the millions of medical claims processed through the company’s Caspian Insights platform.

– Forecasting future surges of infection is critical for flattening the curve now, especially considering the lack of tests, as well as maintaining active surveillance of early spikes whenever states and counties start reopening.

Cotiviti, a provider of data-driven healthcare solutions, has introduced a COVID-19 Outbreak Tracker to map potentially hidden “hot spots” across the U.S. Cotiviti’s COVID-19 Outbreak Tracker prospectively identifies, seven to ten days prior, geographic areas that may see heightened infection outbreaks based on indicators common to most COVID-19 cases.

COVID-19 Outbreak Tracker Background/Methodology

The map leverages data from the company’s new Caspian Insights platform—the most complete, enriched longitudinal healthcare data reserve in the United States—to predict areas of the outbreak at the state and county levels that may otherwise go undetected. By analyzing COVID-19 screening procedures across millions of medical claims processed daily by Cotiviti’s Caspian Insights platform and comparing against historical trends, Cotiviti’s map can identify future instances of an outbreak with a high degree of accuracy, helping the healthcare industry shift its response from reactive to proactive.

Areas of particular concern for additional COVID-19 cases

The following states have seen the most significant increases in their likelihood of potentially hidden outbreak week over week, indicating they may be areas of particular concern for additional COVID-19 cases in the immediate future:

– California

– Texas

– Alabama

– Illinois

– Washington

Meanwhile, the following states have seen the most significant decreases in their likelihood of potentially hidden outbreak week over week, indicating that efforts to curtail the outbreak appear to be succeeding:

– North Carolina

– Delaware

– Virginia

– Minnesota

– Massachusetts

“To address something as unprecedented and turbulent as this pandemic, the entire healthcare industry had to respond swiftly, strategically, and collaboratively, bringing the best minds and innovations to meet this challenge,” said Emad Rizk, M.D., chairman, president, and CEO of Cotiviti. “Cotiviti has been working diligently to mitigate the impact of COVID-19, from providing our health plan customers with critical tools and information to applying our deep analytics expertise and answering some of the biggest questions around the pandemic, such as which communities may be next to feel the impact. Equally important, as states and counties reopen under social distancing rules, it will be critical to maintain active surveillance of any early spikes that may be predictive of COVID-19 resurgence.”
