Redox, a health data integration platform, today announced an integration partnership with OpiSafe to expand the use of OpiSafe’s comprehensive pain medication management web and mobile platform to help thousands of providers across the country prescribe and treat pain more effectively while avoiding bad outcomes.

The opioid epidemic requires innovative approaches and the digital health industry is taking steps to make inroads against this crisis. As part of the partnership, Redox will integrate with OpiSafe’s platform with a provider’s electronic health record (EHR) to gather data needed to stratify risk for each patient on the basis of morphine equivalent dosing ranges, pain and function scores, opioid misuse risk scores, and automated Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) checks.
This data informs clinicians if a patient is at risk of opioid abuse before prescribing or during a treatment. Healthcare organizations can connect to Redox once and authorize the data they send and receive across the most extensive interoperable network in healthcare. OpiSafe offers thousands of healthcare providers, pharmacies, public health departments, first responders, and government agencies tools to manage opioid patients and overdose response.
Why It Matters
Every day, more than 130 people in the United States die after overdosing on opioids. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that the total “economic burden” of prescription opioid misuse alone in the United States is $78.5 billion a year, including the costs of healthcare, lost productivity, addiction treatment, and criminal justice involvement. With the Redox hub in place, it will be easy for OpiSafe to build a network that unleashes a huge amount of data for providers and patients. This integration gives health systems the ability to rapidly deploy OpiSafe within dozens of EHR instances.
