PeraHealth Joins the Epic App Orchard for Seamless Integration with Epic EHR

Healthwise, a nonprofit organization with a mission to help people make better health decisions has announced the availability of its patient education app, Healthwise FHIR Solution for Epic: Point of Care, in Epic’s App Orchard marketplace. The adoption of the FHIR standard connects the healthcare industry in new and modern ways, improving interoperability.

As an App Orchard contributor, Healthwise will utilize application programming interfaces (APIs), which serve as a bridge between Epic tools and third-party software products to enable greater collaboration, integration and seamless workflow.

The Healthwise for Point of Care solution, paired with FHIR technology, helps hospitals and health systems easily implement and seamlessly integrate patient education into their Epic EMR and patient portal platforms. The app and supporting APIs are cloud-hosted, so clinicians and patients always have the most up-to-date content.

Within their existing workflows, clinicians can select from Healthwise’s award-winning resources, including engaging videos and shared decision making tools. Clinicians can email the education so that patients have easy access to the information anytime, anywhere, on any device.

Patient activity and responses are reported back to clinicians to give them new insight into the level of patient engagement. Organizations will be able to meet 2014 and 2015 Edition Meaningful Use requirements with over 3,500 patient instructions in English and Spanish, nearly 2,000 medication leaflets, and a selected list of instructions in 13 additional languages.

“Healthwise for Point of Care helps improve the health care experience for patients, clinicians, and our client organizations,” says Adam Husney, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Healthwise in a statement. “This is an exciting new way to use ground-breaking technology to help clinicians work more efficiently and provide patients with the latest health information, while moving toward greater interoperability.”
