Virtua Selets Teladoc to Offer Telehealth Visits In Southern New Jersey

Teladoc, Inc., a provider of virtual care delivery services, announced today that it has been certified as a trusted partner of Surescripts, the nation’s leading health information network. With this certification Teladoc expands its e-prescribing relationship with the organization, enabling Teladoc physicians to access the Surescripts Medication History and Eligibility & Formulary services. Real-time medication history validation and prescription benefit access at the time of consultation gives Teladoc physicians greater data insights that ultimately lead to improved medication adherence, reduced risk of potential adverse drug interactions, and lower prescription costs for patients.

At a time when preventable medication errors impact more than seven million US patients annually, the addition of Surescripts’ Medication History service to Teladoc’s virtual care delivery platform is an example of how data sharing can eliminate prescription errors that lead to adverse drug events.   By informing treating physicians of members’ current and past prescriptions, Teladoc is providing important information that enables physicians to account for potential drug interactions or allergic reactions when prescribing medication.

Furthermore, Teladoc physicians can now view in real-time the member’s drug formulary data including cost information during a patient visit. This enables Teladoc physicians to save money for patients by reducing out-of-pocket costs, while also improving overall medication compliance.

Being certified as a trusted partner of Surescripts is another example of how Teladoc continues to lead the industry in data-sharing across the healthcare ecosystem. With the ability to access real-time pharmacy information, to integrate into EMR systems, and to share medical records with primary care physicians, Teladoc goes beyond point-in-time care, to become a true part of the overall healthcare journey.
