On Friday, the ONC announced it has appointed Naval Captain Alicia Morton as the new Director of the ONC Health IT Certification Program. Morton joined the ONC in 2005 where she lead the ONC’s first entry into EHR certification and has worked in a variety of roles. Most recently, she served as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer alongside Jacob Reider and as a Senior Advisor in OST.
Prior to joining the ONC, Morton managed the systems development component of the Doctor’s Office Quality-Information Technology (DOQ-IT) project. Additionally, she was the lead technical project manager for the Consolidated Health Informatics (CHI) initiative and integral to the Vista Office EHR project. She also served on active duty in the U.S. Navy stationed at National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda. She holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) and M.S. in Nursing Informatics from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.
She will be succeeding Carol Bean who now is at Stanford University School of Medicine.
