Medfusion announced today that due to unresolved payment disputes, its relationship with Allscripts has ended.  Medfusion offers patient portal and website solutions to healthcare providers. These solutions allow providers and their patients to securely communicate online, and enable providers to meet certain regulatory requirements.

“The end of a long-standing contract is never easy,” said Vern Davenport, Medfusion president. “However, for us at Medfusion, we believe that this is best for the healthcare providers and patients we serve.”

Under the now-terminated contract, Medfusion had been indirectly providing its online patient portal and website solutions to approximately 30,000 Allscripts providers. These users of Medfusion’s portal technology who currently have access will not experience any immediate lapse in service, and they will be given an opportunity to secure direct service from Medfusion. This will ensure they can manage their systems and the care of their patients without interruption.

Users of Medfusion’s portal technology electing to continue service with Medfusion will have access to their portal while their service is transferred during this critical time leading up to Meaningful Use enablement. Meaningful Use is a government incentive program that provides financial incentives for the “meaningful use” of certified EHR technology. Many practices are currently in the second stage of their Meaningful Use journey, and this stage requires using a patient portal to achieve several of the mandatory criteria.

“Healthcare providers are under a lot of pressure to meet government requirements,” added Davenport. “Medfusion’s job is to help providers do that in the most effective manner and help them ensure their incentive payments are awarded. As we enter this most exciting era of consumerism in healthcare, we will continue to offer solutions for patients who want to understand and play a more active role in their overall care.”

Medfusion has staffed a customer support team to help those impacted through this transition. Provider groups who have questions can call the dedicated Medfusion customer transition center at 1-877-599-5120 or go to www.medfusion.com/transition for more information.
