He is a practicing cardiologist at Scripps in La Jolla, California, and is widely credited for Cleveland Clinic’s status as the leading center for heart care. There, he started a medical school, led worldwide clinical trials to advance care for heart disease, and spearheaded the discovery of genes that increase susceptibility for heart attacks.
