– Piedmont Healthcare, a leading health system announced the creation of a new executive position: Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO). Mary Kane, MS, RN, NI-BC, has been named the inaugural Chief Nursing Informatics Officer (CNIO).
– In her role as CNIO, Kane will be responsible for optimizing technology and its impact on nurses, clinicians, and ultimately, patient care. Kane started as CNIO at Piedmont in December.
Bio/Background
Ms. Kane brings over 20 years of experience in healthcare leadership across various settings, including integrated delivery systems, health payers, life sciences, and commercial organizations. She has a proven track record of success in organizations of all sizes. Prior to joining Piedmont, Ms. Kane served as Managing Principal-Healthcare for The Northridge Group. She also held previous leadership positions as System Vice President and Chief Clinical Informatics Officer at Advocate Aurora Health, one of the nation’s largest integrated delivery systems, as well as Vice President and Regional Chief Nursing Informatics Officer at Catholic Health Initiatives (now CommonSpirit Health), the country’s largest non-profit health system.
Ms. Kane will act as a key liaison between nurses and clinicians, advocating for their needs in healthcare information technology (IT) initiatives. She will work collaboratively with a team of informatics specialists, including pharmacy and clinical informaticists, as well as collaborate with Chief Medical Informatics Officers (CMIOs) to integrate clinical informatics and digital tools seamlessly into patient care.
