Boston Children’s IDHA Launch Secure “Task Manager” App for Clinical Teams to Avoid Burnout

Boston Children’s Hospital’s Innovation and Digital Health Accelerator (IDHA) today unveiled Dock Health, a secure mobile and web application that gives clinicians and their teams an essential tool for managing the numerous tasks that are part of clinical care. Founded by  Michael Docktor, MD and Keather Roemhildt , Dock Health received an accelerator grant from IDHA in 2016. As of early September, the app is being piloted in several Boston Children’s departments (Gastroenterology, Allergy/Immunology, Orthopedics and General Pediatrics) and external pilots are set to begin shortly. IDHA Clinical Director and co-founder of Dock Health Michael Docktor, MD will demo the app at this week at  Health 2.0 Conference in Santa Clara, California and will showcase it in Boston as part of HUBweek on October 10, 2017.

According to a study in the Annals of Internal Medicine, physicians spend an average of two hours of desk work for every hour of patient care. Providers are buried in emails, Post-It notes and administrative tasks that contribute to clinical team burnout. To resolve this, Dock Health created a secure hub for managing click tasks together. The HIPAA-compliant app, built for iOS devices and the web, is designed to make it easier for clinicians and their support staff to work together to deliver more efficient and reliable care. By helping doctors, nurses and their staff get the mundane but critical background tasks of clinical care done, the startup hopes to reduce stress, prevent dropped balls and free up time for the essential face to face patient care everyone is longing for.

“Dock Health is a simple app to help get everyone on the same page, reduce dropped balls and help teams close the loop efficiently,” says Dock Health co-founder Michael Docktor in a statement. “Clinicians are clamoring for well-designed productivity tools that are secure, have patient context, and help with the challenges of communication and administrative task overload. Using Dock with my team has literally changed the way I practice and reduced my stress level tremendously.”
