Practice Fusion partners with AliveCor and Diasend to help doctors gain a more complete picture of their patient’s health.
It’s no secret that medical devices like heart rate monitors and blood glucose meters can help patients manage their health. However, for the doctors that prescribe these devices, the recurring challenge is how to regularly – and easily – access and analyze the resulting treasure troves of data to deliver better care.
Today, Practice Fusion, the largest cloud based EHR platform has announced its first foray into device data integration with two leaders in the medical device field:AliveCor and Diasend. By integrating with Practice Fusion, the biggest cloud-based EHR platform, AliveCor and Diasend now reach the nation’s largest physician-patient community.
Partnership Details
Doctors that prescribe the AliveCor® Heart Monitor will see a patient’s ECG trace in Practice Fusion’s electronic health record (EHR) seconds after the trace has been recorded by the AliveCor smartphone device and app. Those using the Diasend® System will be able to receive blood glucose and insulin reports from blood glucose meters and insulin pumps directly in the EHR. With these partnerships, doctors using Practice Fusion will gain a more complete picture of their patient’s health and become better-equipped to more effectively manage the increasing burden of cardiac disease and diabetes care in the United States.
Improving Interoperability between Medical Devices and EHRs
A 2013 report from the West Health Institute estimated that improving interoperability between medical devices and EHRs in hospitals could save more than $30 billion a year while improving patient care and safety, InformationWeek reported. A HIMSS Analytics study also found that 90% of hospitals use six or more types of devices that could be integrated with EHRs including:
- defibrillators
- glucose monitors
- electrocardiographs,
- vital signs monitors
- ventilators
- infusion pumps
