Modivcare and Aetna Better Health of Illinois Launch Community-Based Smart Health Stations to Advance Preventive Care and Equity

Modivcare Inc. (Nasdaq: MODV), a leading healthcare services company, integrates technology into the human experience of care through a platform of supportive services designed to improve health outcomes for both public and private payors. Its value-based solutions address social determinants of health (SDoH), expand access to care, reduce costs, and enhance patient outcomes. Modivcare is a national leader in non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT), personal care, and virtual monitoring services, including solutions provided through VRI and Higi.

In collaboration with Aetna Better Health of Illinois, Modivcare has deployed Higi Smart Health Stations across underserved communities to promote preventative care and improve health literacy. What began with five community organizations is now expanding to 15, creating convenient, no-cost access points where individuals can:

  • Obtain educational information about chronic health conditions
  • Complete health risk surveys and receive personalized care recommendations
  • Identify unmet social and healthcare needs
  • Connect with relevant community and health plan resources

These Smart Health Stations are placed in trusted community hubs, extending healthcare reach to where individuals live and work. Aetna complements this effort by partnering with local organizations to provide its Medicaid members with tools that support self-awareness, education, and timely access to care services.

L. Heath Sampson, President and CEO of Modivcare, stated:
“We are thrilled to deepen our partnership with Aetna Better Health of Illinois by leveraging our Higi Stations to deliver scalable, technology-enabled access and engagement solutions. This initiative reflects our shared mission to reduce disparities and improve health outcomes in underserved communities. With self-service health tools, educational content, and future telehealth integration, we’re empowering individuals to better understand their health while easing the burden on clinical systems.”

Current community host sites include:

  1. Rincon Family Services
  2. Supportive Reentry Network Collaborative
  3. The Kindness Campaign
  4. Vermillion County Healthcare Collaborative
  5. Westside Health Authority

The partnership aims to redefine local health infrastructure through innovation and collaboration. Aetna Better Health of Illinois, serving over 360,000 Medicaid members across 102 counties, continues to drive improvements in care utilization, health gap closure, and patient satisfaction. Through this joint initiative, Modivcare and Aetna are delivering a forward-looking model of care—one that blends transportation, virtual care, and community engagement to improve access, elevate outcomes, and enhance equity for vulnerable populations across Illinois.

Together, they remain committed to exploring new avenues to expand healthcare access, amplify member engagement, and set new standards for value-based community care.
