GE HealthCare Launches AI-Powered Ultrasound for Enhanced Breast Cancer Detection in Dense Breasts

What You Should Know:

– GE HealthCare has unveiled Invenia™ Automated Breast Ultrasound (ABUS) Premium, a cutting-edge 3D ultrasound system designed to revolutionize breast cancer screening for women with dense breast tissue.

– The technology integrates artificial intelligence (AI) and innovative features to expedite supplemental screening, streamline exam readings, and improve detection accuracy.

AI-Driven 3D Breast Ultrasound

Dense breast tissue, present in a significant portion of women worldwide, poses a challenge for traditional mammography as it can mask cancerous tumors. With approximately 71% of cancers occurring in dense breasts, early detection is crucial. Invenia ABUS Premium addresses this issue by providing clearer, more detailed images, enhancing the sensitivity of invasive cancer detection when used in conjunction with mammography.

Invenia ABUS Premium is engineered to manage high patient volumes while delivering exceptional image quality and boosting clinical confidence. The system’s Verisound™ AI tools, featuring Scan Quality Assessment and Auto Nipple Detection, optimize exam consistency and accuracy. The new Fast Scan tool accelerates scan speed by up to 40%*, while cSound™ Imageformer capabilities ensure consistent, high-resolution image quality.

For rapid and efficient interpretation, physicians can utilize the Invenia ABUS Viewer with AI Assistant**, which leverages intelligent algorithms to assist in detecting and characterizing breast lesions. This AI-powered review can improve clinical confidence and reading efficiency, particularly in addressing staff shortages.

The ABUS Premium’s non-invasive design prioritizes patient comfort. A patient experience study indicated that 100% of women would recommend the exam to a friend. The technology’s ability to distinguish malignant tumors through specific image features has the potential to reduce unnecessary biopsies. Additionally, it eliminates patient exposure to radiation or contrast injections.

“Women with dense breasts often face poorer outcomes due to malignancies detected at later, more advanced stages. Invenia ABUS Premium equipped with AI has the potential to optimize clinicians’ screening capabilities, enabling them to detect even small, early-stage cancers with a high degree of confidence in women with dense breasts,” said Karley Yoder, CEO of Comprehensive Care Ultrasound, GE HealthCare. “Invenia ABUS Premium is designed to help deliver the best possible outcomes for patients while also prioritizing the patient experience with features to improve scan speed and enhance comfort during an exam.”
