What You Should Know:

–  Frederick Health (Frederick, MD) recently launched a first-of-its-kind precision medicine integration that enhances their decision support capabilities with intuitive recommendations that are tailored to the individual patient and their cancer’s specific characteristics.

– The integration between MEDITECH’s Expanse Genomics solution and GenomOncology’s Precision Oncology Platform expands access to comprehensive precision medicine information within their Expanse EHR, including Expanse Oncology.

Enhancing Precision Medicine: Frederick Health’s Integration of Expanse Genomics and GenomOncology

Frederick Health has significantly advanced its Precision Medicine & Genetics program by integrating Expanse Genomics with GenomOncology’s platform. This integration empowers clinicians—including oncologists, genetic counselors, and clinical trial teams—with sophisticated decision-support capabilities, enabling them to provide tailored therapies and clinical trial recommendations based on mutational pathways, patient demographics, genetic history, and other clinical data.

Key features of this integration include:

·       Real-time access to up-to-date genetic information, including interpretations and hotspot details.

·       Seamless incorporation of advanced data and clinical recommendations directly into clinicians’ workflows, facilitating precision care.

·       Enhanced decision-making support, allowing clinicians to implement the most effective treatment strategies from the outset.

The impact on patient care has been profound. Within the first six months of implementation:

·       96 patients underwent treatment modifications based on advanced genetic recommendations, ensuring a personalized approach to cancer care.

·       Clinical trial referrals increased dramatically, rising from an average of two in the six months prior to go-live to 56 new referrals, strengthening Frederick Health’s clinical trials program and expanding treatment options for patients.

The integration has also improved clinician experience. User satisfaction surveys reported:

·       A 36% increase in satisfaction with the therapy and clinical trial selection process.

·       A 33% improvement in satisfaction with the integration of functions used for selecting therapies and clinical trials.

Jackie Rice, Vice President and CIO of Frederick Health, emphasized the significance of this advancement, stating that the integration serves as a key differentiator in the healthcare market. By embedding precision medicine tools within clinician workflows, Frederick Health continues to fulfill its mission of positively impacting community well-being through cutting-edge, patient-centered care.
