What You Should Know:

– Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (Blue Cross) today announced expanded care options and support for members with diabetes.

– This partnership expands Blue Cross’s existing suite of virtual care options for diabetes management, which also includes Virta Health, Teladoc, and Omada.

Virtual Care Options and Pilot Program Aim to Improve Health Outcomes

Blue Cross is partnering with Onduo, a virtual care solution that helps patients manage type 1 or type 2 diabetes along with coexisting conditions like hypertension. Onduo offers a comprehensive platform that includes:

  • Virtual access to care: Connect with a dedicated care team and specialists through a user-friendly app.
  • Personalized support: Receive tailored guidance and support for managing diabetes and overall health.
  • Connected devices: Utilize connected devices, such as continuous glucose monitors, to track and monitor health data.

Blue Cross has also launched a pilot program with Curant Health to address medication adherence challenges among members with diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol. Curant Health will work with select Blue Cross Medicare Advantage members and their providers to identify and overcome barriers to medication adherence, with the goal of improving health outcomes.

“We are very pleased to provide Blue Cross members living with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes with more personalized care through Verily’s Onduo program,” said Dr. Vindell Washington, Verily’s chief clinical officer. “Onduo will deliver precision care at scale with the smart deployment of people and technology. We care for a person, not a diagnosis. Using evidence-based medical care and data, Onduo customizes health journeys that holistically address stressors, nutrition challenges, and pain points for a healthier lifestyle, while optimizing medication use and managing coexisting conditions such as hypertension and high cholesterol.”
