What You Should Know:

– NC Health, one of the largest and most comprehensive healthcare systems in the southeast, is expanding the use of the Abridge AI technology across its network of thousands of clinicians to improve the patient and clinician experience.

– Following a rigorous year-long pilot evaluation involving 100 clinicians across multiple specialties and care settings, UNC Health selected Abridge as the enterprise-wide solution for ambient AI-powered documentation.

UNC Health Integrates Abridge AI to Enhance Clinical Documentation and Provider Efficiency

UNC Health is set to implement Abridge’s speech recognition technology across its physician and advanced practice provider network in North Carolina, beginning in early February. This innovative AI-powered solution enhances clinical documentation by:

  • Automatically detecting care settings, medical specialties, and languages to generate real-time documentation.
  • Utilizing auditable AI to map clinical notes to verified conversation-based data, enabling clinicians to efficiently trust and verify outputs.
  • Integrating with leading electronic health record (EHR) systems to streamline workflows and optimize provider efficiency.

Dr. Sachin Gupta, Chief Medical Officer for the UNC Physicians Network, emphasized the significance of this adoption, stating that Abridge represents a transformative advancement in clinical technology and will serve as the foundation for future innovations. He highlighted UNC Health’s commitment to enhancing both provider and patient experienceswhile ensuring that clinicians who prefer not to use the system can opt out. The selection of Abridge also reflects a prioritization of patient safety and privacy protections.

By reducing administrative burdens and allowing clinicians to focus more on patient care, this integration marks a significant step in advancing healthcare efficiency and provider well-being at UNC Health.
