What You Should Know:

– GE HealthCare has received 510(k) clearance from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its updated portfolio of Voluson™ Expert Series ultrasound systems.

– The Voluson Expert 22, 20, and 18 combine high-resolution image quality with advanced ultrasound technology and an ergonomic design to enhance workflow and user experience in women’s health. These systems integrate artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features and automation tools to improve imaging performance and efficiency, particularly in managing high-risk pregnancies.

Rise of High-Risk Pregnancies

The prevalence of high-risk pregnancies in the United States is increasing, with an estimated 30,000 to 50,000 women experiencing complications each year. These complications can pose serious risks to both mother and baby if left undetected or untreated. The Voluson Expert Series aims to address this challenge by providing advanced imaging capabilities and AI-powered tools for early detection and intervention.

Advanced Imaging and AI Capabilities

The Voluson Expert Series is designed with clinicians in mind, featuring an ergonomic design and user-friendly interface for an efficient workflow. The systems are compatible with a wide range of specialty probes, including a new lightweight 2D/3D probe and wireless Vscan Air™ dual probes in high-risk pregnancies

Key features include:

  • Lyric Architecture: Unlocks new imaging and processing power to deliver detailed and uniform images, revealing finer anatomical details even in challenging scanning conditions.
  • SonoLyst Suite: AI-powered tools that simplify exams through image recognition, automated annotations, and measurements, increasing exam speed and accuracy.
  • SonoLystlive: Enables real-time utilization of SonoLyst during 11 to 14-week anatomical exams, ensuring accurate capture of required views.
  • Expanded Color Doppler: Graphicflow provides a graphical representation of blood flow trajectories in real-time, helping users differentiate normal from abnormal hemodynamics.
  • Enhanced Voluson AI Tools:
    • SonoPelvicFloor 3.0: Reduces pelvic floor measurement exam time by up to 80%.*
    • SonoAVCfollicle 2.0: Uses AI to increase accuracy and precision in follicle detection.

“We are proud to introduce these updates to the Voluson Expert ultrasound systems, which represent our ongoing commitment to advancing technology that addresses women’s health needs of today, and the future,” said Gerald Seifriedsberger, General Manager, Women’s Health, Advanced Visualization Solutions, GE HealthCare. “By introducing solutions that offer unparalleled clarity and detail, we can empower users with critical insights for informed care decisions and efficient exams, transforming how clinicians approach healthcare. Together, we can create a healthier future for all women.”
