What You Should Know:

– The State of Hawaii has partnered with Bamboo Health, a provider of real-time care intelligence solutions, to enhance the state’s efforts in combating opioid overdoses.

– The integration will provide healthcare providers and pharmacists across Hawaii with seamless access to Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) data, enabling more informed prescribing decisions and reducing the risk of opioid misuse.

Integrating PDMP Data into Clinical Workflows

Through Bamboo Health’s PMP Gateway® and PMP AWARxE® solutions, healthcare professionals in Hawaii can now access critical PDMP data directly within their existing electronic health records (EHRs) and pharmacy management systems. This integration provides real-time insights into a patient’s controlled substance prescription history, empowering providers and pharmacists to:

  • Identify potential risks: Detect patterns of opioid misuse or potential overprescribing.
  • Make informed prescribing decisions: Prescribe controlled substances safely and responsibly.
  • Improve patient safety: Reduce the risk of opioid overdoses and adverse events.
  • Enhance care coordination: Facilitate communication and collaboration among healthcare providers involved in a patient’s care.

“Advanced prescription monitoring improves the quality of care in our communities and combats the rise in drug overdoses. We are empowering our healthcare providers with the tools they need to make informed decisions and improve health outcomes for the people of Hawaii,” said the Narcotics Enforcement Division’s Acting Administrator, Michael Hartsock.
