Bone Health Technologies Acquires Wellen for Osteoporosis Care

What You Should Know:

– Bone Health Technologies (BHT), a pioneer in non-pharmaceutical bone health solutions acquires Wellen, a Brooklyn-based company focused on personalized exercise programs for osteoporosis designed for women over 50.

– By combining BHT’s innovative medical device with Wellen’s personalized exercise programs, this strategic move positions Bone Health Technologies as a leader in providing effective, non-drug solutions for people struggling with osteoporosis and osteopenia.

A Comprehensive Solution Anchored by Innovation

This acquisition positions BHT to achieve its vision of a holistic bone health solution. The centerpiece of this approach is the Osteoboost vibration therapy belt, a prescription-only medical device awaiting its late 2024 launch and cleared by the FDA. Wellen’s expertise in personalized exercise programs will be integrated with Osteoboost to offer patients a layered treatment approach. Priya Patel, Wellen’s CEO, will join BHT as Chief Product Officer, leading the development of these combined services for optimal patient outcomes in managing low bone density.

Addressing a Global Public Health Crisis

Millions worldwide, including an estimated 64 million Americans, are susceptible to debilitating fractures due to osteoporosis and osteopenia. While medications exist, limited patient acceptance due to side effects creates a pressing healthcare challenge. Prior to Osteoboost, there were no prescription options specifically targeting osteopenia, further exacerbating this crisis.

Osteoboost: A Personalized 360° Solution

Expected to launch by the end of 2024, Osteoboost will offer a first-of-its-kind targeted vibration therapy belt as part of a personalized 360° bone health solution. This science-backed approach will combine Osteoboost with a customized exercise program, empowering patients to achieve optimal results and adherence to treatment plans.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Wellen to the BHT team. One-in-two women and one-in-four men will suffer an osteoporotic fracture in their lifetime. Priya and the Wellen team have built the gold standard for personalized exercise-based care designed by physical therapists to strengthen bones and reduce the risk of falls and fractures. The Wellen program will bring tremendous value to our platform,” said Laura Yecies, CEO of Bone Health Technologies.
