What You Should Know:

– Amwell announced a significant leadership transition. Co-founder and visionary healthcare technology leader Roy Schoenberg, M.D., M.P.H., will transition from his role as president and co-CEO to become the Executive Vice Chairman of Amwell’s Board of Directors.

– Ido Schoenberg, M.D., will take on the role of sole Chief Executive Officer of Amwell.

Roy Schoenberg Background

Since co-founding Amwell in 2006, Roy Schoenberg has been a pivotal force in the advancement of digital healthcare. His vision to democratize healthcare access and distribution through modern technology has fundamentally reshaped the patient and clinician experience in digital care. Under his leadership, Amwell has introduced new efficiencies, embraced care automation, healthcare AI, and related technologies, elevating the standards and reach of patient care.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Roy Schoenberg’s efforts were instrumental in ensuring that the healthcare industry could fulfill its obligations to patients through technology. He worked closely with payers, providers, and regulators to maintain continuity of care, even as in-person services were disrupted. His leadership helped expand the Amwell platform, which now connects over 100,000 active clinicians with millions of patients worldwide.

As the world emerged from the pandemic, Roy Schoenberg began developing the Amwell Converge™ platform. This next-generation platform is designed to meet the evolving expectations of a healthcare landscape that balances in-person and digital experiences. Roy’s mission to bring healthcare directly to patients remains at the core of Amwell’s objectives.

Ido Schoenberg, who will now serve as the sole CEO, has been an integral part of Amwell’s leadership alongside Roy. Together, they have guided the company through significant growth and innovation. Ido’s continued leadership is expected to drive Amwell forward in its mission to provide accessible, high-quality digital care.

“The time is now to take the next step in our mission. Our unique opportunity to realize the immense value in new Amwell technology – while achieving critical operational and clinical goals – is both timely and exciting. I am confident in our talented leadership team and will continue to support them in our journey to digitally reimagine healthcare,” said Roy Schoenberg, newly appointed Amwell Executive Vice Chairman.
