What You Should Know:

  • Royal Philips (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHIA), a global leader in health technology, today announced an expanded collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to address the growing need for secure, scalable digital pathology solutions in the cloud.

Advancing Healthcare Through the Philips and AWS Partnership in Digital Pathology

The partnership between Philips and AWS combines Philips’ expertise in digitizing pathology with AWS’ leadership in scalable, secure cloud solutions. This collaboration aims to streamline clinical workflows by advancing digital pathology, empowering pathology labs to efficiently handle, organize, and analyze expanding amounts of digital pathology data. By simplifying the adoption of digital workflows, the partnership also strives to improve productivity and diagnostic precision within pathology labs.

Moreover, the integration of Philips and AWS technologies will facilitate the optimization of workflow efficiency and foster collaboration among specialists within pathology labs. This seamless integration with existing healthcare systems is essential for delivering comprehensive patient care.

Pathology is vital for diagnosing and treating diseases, notably cancer. With about 70% of crucial medical decisions based on pathology tests, having digital pathology images accessible is crucial. As data volumes increase, there’s a rising need for scalable storage and AI support, highlighting the shift towards cloud-based solutions from traditional on-premises systems.

Philips, a leader in digital pathology solutions, serves over 300 clients with Philips IntelliSite Pathology’s comprehensive digital workflow. Teaming up with AWS, Philips aims to support large-scale clinical trials and collaborative care initiatives, especially in cancer treatment. Utilizing AWS HealthImaging, Philips enhances storage optimization and AI utilization to advance pathology image analysis and streamline clinical workflows.

Additionally, by integrating Amazon Bedrock, known for its high-performance foundation models, Philips strengthens its AI capabilities in pathology analysis and clinical support. Integrated with Philips HealthSuite Imaging on AWS, Philips’ extensive enterprise informatics capabilities empower clinicians with enhanced diagnostic workflows and seamless access to images, optimizing patient care across the entire imaging workflow from diagnosis to follow-up.

“Healthcare organizations benefit when clinical workflow leadership is combined with scalable cloud infrastructure, and by building on services like AWS HealthImaging and Amazon Bedrock, Philips is offering their customers the best of both worlds,” said Tehsin Syed, GM of Health AI at AWS. “Secure cloud-based offerings address the growing demand to store and utilize more data, and by digitizing pathology healthcare leaders can apply AI and ML to drive better insights. We look forward to continued work with Philips to help improve productivity, advance research, and ultimately enable more precise and tailored patient care.”
