Mayo Appoints Dr. John Halamka As President of Mayo Clinic Platform
Dr. John Halamka, President, Mayo Clinic Platform

– Mayo Clinic names John Halamka, M.D. president of Mayo Clinic Platform, starting January 1st, 2020.

– Under his leadership, Dr. Halamka will help shape the future of Mayo Clinic Platform as part of Mayo Clinic’s digital health initiatives to support healthcare transformation.

John Halamka, M.D., has been named the president of Mayo Clinic Platform, starting Jan. 1, 2020. In his new role at Mayo Clinic, Dr. Halamka will oversee the future direction of the Mayo Clinic Platform that will help establish Mayo Clinic as a global leader in digital healthcare.

“Dr. Halamka has a proven track record of success in innovation and value creation,” says Gianrico Farrugia, M.D., president and CEO, Mayo Clinic. “His extensive experience and network will help power the Mayo Clinic Platform forward to benefit our patients and to support Mayo Clinic’s path for the future.”

Dr. Halamka Bio/Background

Prior to the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Halamka served as the executive director of the Health Technology Exploration Center for Beth Israel Lahey Health in Massachusetts. During his tenure at Beth Israel Lahey Health, Dr. Halamka oversaw digital health relationships with industry, academia, and government worldwide. Previously, he was chief information officer at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center for more than 20 years. In his role at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Dr. Halamka was responsible for all clinical, financial, administrative and academic IT.

As a Harvard Medical School professor, he served the George W. Bush administration, the Obama administration and governments around the world planning their health care information (IT) strategies. In addition, he also was the International Healthcare Innovation Professor at Harvard Medical School. He remains chairman of New England Healthcare Exchange Network Inc. and is a practicing emergency medicine physician. Dr. Halamka has written a dozen books about technology-related issues, hundreds of articles and thousands of posts on the Geekdoctor blog.

Clark Otley Appointed as Chief Medical Officer

To support the future success of the Mayo Clinic Platform, Clark Otley, M.D., has been named chief medical officer, Mayo Clinic Platform. Dr. Otley joined Mayo Clinic in 1999. He is a professor of dermatology, Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science; a physician in the division of dermatologic surgery; medical director for the Department of Business Development; and president of Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research.
