Peerwell Lands $2.1M for Surgery Prep App to Help Patients Recover Faster

PeerWell, a healthcare technology company helping patients prepare and recover from orthopedic surgery, announced an extension to their platform for outpatient joint replacement centers. Previously the platform had only been available to inpatients.

Experts estimate that the demand for orthopedic surgeries will grow by 77 percent over the next 10 years with a predicted 50 percent or more of these cases completed in an outpatient setting. The PeerWell outpatient pre-operative preparation program will help doctors expand the types of patients they can indicate for surgery.

The PreHab program gives patients a daily checklist of activities to complete that helps them prepare physically, mentally and environmentally (ex. eliminating fall hazards, setting up a bedroom on the bottom floor so they don’t to walk upstairs, etc.), which helps surgeons and patients achieve the following:

– Lowers patients risk by dismantling unhealthy behaviors

– Physically and mentally prepares patients for surgery

– Teaches the necessary activities of daily living for same-day discharge

– Offers at-home social support

PeerWell’s outpatient pre-operative preparation program, available on November 16, 2017, will help doctors expand the types of patients they can indicate for surgery. PeerWell’s outpatient PreHab program lowers patient risk by dismantling unhealthy behaviors, physically and mentally preparing patients for surgery, teaching the necessary activities of daily living for same-day discharge, offering at-home social support, and more.

The complete outpatient PreHab and ReHab program delivers daily bite-sized tasks that are proven to optimize patients for same-day discharge while adapting to individual patient need and risk-level. “Successful outpatient surgery relies heavily on healthy patients and accurate patient selection. PeerWell not only optimizes patient health before surgery day, but provides valuable data about patient progress and risk,” explained Dr. Frisch, M.D., partner with Bald Mountain Surgical Center.

Graduates of PeerWell’s PreHab program for inpatient joint replacement surgery were discharged straight home 77% more frequently after surgery than the national average. PeerWell’s inpatient PreHab has cut down inpatient length of stay by 45%. Now, same-day joint replacement surgery candidates will be also be able to benefit from PeerWell’s proven programs.
