HIMSS Analytics has awarded Nicklaus Children’s Hospital  in Miami, Fla. with a Stage 7 Award. The award represents Nicklaus Children’s Hospital’s attainment of the highest level on the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model™ (EMRAM).

Stage 7 Award: HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a methodology for evaluating the progress and impact of electronic medical record systems for hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics™ Database. There are eight stages (0-7) that measure a hospital’s implementation and utilization of information technology applications. The final stage, Stage 7, represents an advanced patient record environment. The validation process to confirm a hospital has reached Stage 7 includes a site visit by an executive from HIMSS Analytics and former or current chief information officers to ensure an unbiased evaluation of the Stage 7 environments.

During the fourth quarter of 2015, only 4.2 percent of the more than 5,400 U.S. hospitals in the HIMSS Analytics® Logic™ received the Stage 7 Award.

“Very early on in this journey we saw the importance that digitization places on the patients and families in our care, from reducing costs, improving care and improving the service to our customers. We are honored to be recognized for our ability to adopt and embrace a digitized healthcare workplace,” said Edward Martinez, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Miami Children’s Health System.

Founded in 1950 by Variety Clubs International, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital – part of Miami Children’s Health System – is South Florida’s only licensed specialty hospital exclusively for children, with more than 650 attending physicians and over 130 pediatric sub-specialists. The hospital is also home to the largest pediatric teaching program in the southeastern United States and has been designated an American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet facility, the nursing profession’s most prestigious institutional honor.

“Nicklaus Children’s Hospital is truly on the leading edge of technology use in many ways.  For example, they have repurposed their former medical records storage room into a global Telehealth Centre serving pediatric patients around the world,” said John H. Daniels, CNM, FACHE, FHIMSS, CPHIMS, global vice president, healthcare advisory services group, HIMSS Analytics.
