ActualMeds wins the Venture+ Forum and CareSync wins favorite startup in the first ever HIMSS Startup Showcase.

Winners of the Venture+ Forum and Startup Showcase, two unique events for emerging, innovative companies at the HIMSS14 annual conference, have been announced. The Venture+ Forum, a pitch contest featuring early stage healthcare IT companies, named ActualMeds, a provider of web-based and mobile solutions to enable team-based medication management and reconciliation for high risk patients at the point of care, the winner.

Automated Medication Reconciliation for Team Based Care

ActualMeds Wins HIMSS14 Venture+ Forum, CareSync Voted Startup Showcase Winner

ActualMeds provides the first patient-centered, multi-disciplinary approach to medication reconciliation at transitions of care. Beginning with a systematic, comprehensive review of a patient’s drugs and self-medication behavior, the solution creates and maintains an accurate list of all of a patient’s medications, along with prescribing information from the patient’s electronic medical record, and fill and refill information from insurance claims. Medication reconciliation and risk information can be made available to all involved with a patient’s care including family, caregivers and providers. It is also designed to interoperate with industry leading EHR and PHR systems via data change standards (e.g. ASTM CCR, CCD/C32/HL7) and via custom data interchange interfaces.

The enterprise-scale Software-as-a-Service solution is hosted on enterprise class, name-brand cloud servers that applies best practices embodied in HIPAA and the PCI Data Security Standard. Access to patient data will be fully auditable, accessible to clinical users based on an access control system that tiers information delivery on a need-to-know, authorized basis.

The solution is based on core technology that was developed and validated over the last 5 years at the University of Connecticut in the School of Nursing as part of a project led by Professor Patricia J. Neafsey. Dr. Neafsey is a co-founder of ActualMeds and its Prinicipal Scientist.

As winner of the 2014 Venture+ Forum, ActualMeds was awarded a full access package for the 2014 mHealth Summit, taking place December 7-11, 2014, in Washington, D.C. The package includes registration and VIP passes for the Summit and Venture+ Forum, as well as a complimentary kiosk within the Innovation Zone on the exhibit floor and a presentation opportunity on the Innovation Zone stage. In addition, ActualMeds receives complimentary HIMSS15 registration and kiosk within the Startup Showcase, as well as a media release and company feature in a HIMSS Media publication.
